Community safety and crime reduction

Together we are cutting crime!
Crime prevention partners in Salford, including the police and Salford City Council, are working with communities to reduce crime.
Our efforts in the last year have led to a substantial reduction in crime. The latest crime figures show a 19% reduction in recorded crime in the year between April 2007 and March 2008 compared to the same period in 2006/07.
The biggest reductions have been in vehicle related crimes, including stolen cars, theft from vehicles and damage to vehicles, which shows a big 21% reduction.
Other crimes that have been reduced include robbery, criminal damage and burglary.
Councillor David Lancaster, Salford City Council’s lead member for Community Safety said: “These figures are really encouraging for those who have been working hard to fight crime and anti-social behaviour. Many communities have been involved in supporting our activities and operations, sending out a clear message that crime will not be tolerated in our city.”
| Type of crime | Percentage change |
|---|---|
| All crime | -19% |
| Burglary | -9% |
| Vehicle crime | -21% |
| Criminal damage (includes arson) | -17% |
| Robbery | -15% |
The figures above are based on a comparison of the number of recorded crimes in Salford between April 2007 and March 2008 compared to the same period in 2006-2007
