Salford has twinning agreements with four towns in France and Germany. This newsletter is intended to make you aware of the activities that are taking place and potential links to which you might be able to contribute. Free Travel to France!

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale, Eurotunnel are giving away 8,000 seats to official town twinning delegations between the UK and France. For details of how and when to apply, go to:

Swinton ASC success in Lunen

The Swinton Amateur Swimming Club participated in a competition in Lunen in which they represented the city. Reports suggest they performed well, making and renewing friendships.

Librarians' Visit

Two librarians from St. Ouen will be visiting Salford from next Thursday as part of a reciprocal arrangement to enhance understanding of each town's services. The visit is being hosted by the Education and Leisure Directorate of the City Council.

St. Ouen Exchange

A party from Salford travelled to St. Ouen recently and participated in the Fete de St. Ouen. The opportunity was given to promote Salford. A party of six from St. Ouen will be visiting Salford at the end of October to prepare for a much larger group visiting the North-West next year.

Hall Appeal

Wanted: A hall that can accommodate about 300 people for a pop concert featuring a band from Lunen. Any suggestions about venues or offers from schools/churches woulod be welcome.

Stamp Collectors

The Philatelic Club in St. Ouen is anxious to build links with a similar organisation in Salford. Does anybody know of a local stamp collectors' group - please let us know!

Calling all twinning activists!

The Mayor has agreed to host a reception on November 6th for all those interested in town twinning. The event coincides with an invitation to our twin towns to send representatives to the annual bonfire celebration. More details later!

Fotolog

John Coxon, a member of the St. Ouen-Salford Twinning Association, has established a presence on the internet within a community known as 'Fotolog' which enables groups to share images about their interests. John's Group is based on the North West Twinning Federation and you can find out more by visiting the following link:

Town Twinning Forum

The minutes of the last meeting of the Town Twinning Forum are attached as a Word document. The next meeting will be held in a Committee Room at the Civic Centre, Swinton, at 7pm on Thursday, October 14th, 2004.
