Llamas in Pyjamas competition entries
As part of our recent exhibition 'Llamas in Pyjamas: children's book illustrations by Lynne Chapman' we ran a competition asking you to create your own characters inspired by Lynne's work.
Thank you to everyone who sent their drawings in, we have had a brilliant response! A selection of the entries can be seen here, and some of the best were displayed in the exhibition.
Lynne has also had the extremely hard job of judging the competition picking her favourite ones who have won some goodies!
Here are the winners chosen by Lynne with her comments...
Overall winner
Eloise for Rose the Monster Princess (Age four)
Congratulations for winning first prize Eloise! I loved Rose the Monster Princess - from all the hundreds of entries to the competition, from all the children of all ages, yours was my absolute favourite.
You have drawn and coloured her so carefully. I really like the details, especially the pink hairspray and the green, slimy hand-prints on her pink dress, from her green slimy hands (and scary claws!).
A monster princess is a fabulous idea that would make a great character for a story. Perhaps you could write it?
Well done!
Second prize
Emmy for Purple-Lipped Snapper Firetail (Age nine)
Congratulations for winning second prize Emmy!
I loved your beautiful Purple-Lipped Snapper Firetail - what a great character and so unusual.
I liked the way you have used two colours together to create the feel of the fire and I especially like the firetail's panicky face: I don't think he can swim, do you?
It's great the way your illustration fills the page with colour, and the red sky and green sun makes it look like he might live on an alien planet.
Well done!
Runners up
Emily for Gemma the Short-Necked Giraffe (Age ten)
Congratulations Emily - your illustration was in the top five!
I love your idea of a short-necked giraffe - you could write a great story about her. My favourite thing about your illustration is Gemma's disappointed face.
I also love her crazy turquoise spots and the funky cap the sun is wearing.
Well done!
Sofia for Roo in a Shoe (Age ten)
Congratulations Sofia - your illustration was in the top five!
I love your Roo in a Shoe character: just like the animals from 'A Lark in the Ark'.
I really like her gentle but eager face, as though she is really excited about her trendy pumps!
The shoes are so carefully drawn too - a lovely detail.
I like the way you have picked them out as the only thing in blue.
Well done!
Athena for Gerald the Camel (Age 12)
Congratulations Athena - your illustration was in the top five!
I love your camel character, Gerald (great name). I like the way his face fits your notes, like he would be quiet but a bit tetchy.
You have drawn him beautifully - I especially like his spiky fringe and the little hat, as well as the way you have created the cloud in the sky.
The unusual way you have drawn around the background colour almost makes him look like an illustration on a piece of ancient parchment!
Well done!
Highly commended
Lynne found it so hard to judge the competition with so many good entries, that she has picked another five and says...
Well done for a lovely illustration! I'm so sorry not everyone could be a winner (it was very hard to choose just five), but I wanted you to know that yours was also one of my personal favourites.
