Local craftspeople

We are proud to showcase the work of designers and craftspeople based in the North West. Our entrance foyer features displays by both emerging and established designers from Salford and the surrounding areas. As well as a permanent display of work by those based in Islington Mill, Salford, we have a regularly changing display featuring ceramics, textiles and jewellery.

We strive to ensure the pieces are accessible and affordable with no item priced at more than £100.00.

Our current display includes work by:

dontbitchstich

Crackpots
The Salford-based earthenware producer creates functional tableware, from teapots to butter dishes, all of which are ovenproof and microwavable. Although the items are functional, some buyers choose to use the products for display due to their unusual shapes and beautiful colours.

Beverley Gee
Created by a local designer who specialises in decorative hand thrown porcelain. The designs follow simple, clean forms with subtle decoration in soft colours. Natural materials are often incorporated, such as twigs, charcoal and grasses, as well as ribbon and cord which are sometimes used to compliment the pure nature of porcelain.

Collette Costello
Is a Salford-based designer whose range includes homeware and fashion accessories. The items feature prints inspired by Lark Hill Place and the museum collection.

Irene Martin
The jewellery designer creates one-off handmade pieces from alpaca alloy, shells, beans and seeds. It is often the materials themselves that provide the inspiration for the necklaces, which evolve organically meaning no two pieces are ever the same.

Button Boudoir
Jill McCarthy's jewellery is inspired by fragments of times past: snippets of love letters, vintage lace, velvet ribbon, text from old books, watch parts and buttons. She creates a collage from fragments of letters combined with tiny charms, preserving them in resin to form a delicate and beautiful piece of jewellery.

Tula Moon
Tula Moon products are created by a designer-maker who is inspired by colour and pattern, nature, retro and vintage fabrics, old children's book illustrations, patchwork, vintage greeting cards and craft books from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Recycling materials is very important to her and she constantly refers to her huge hoard of vintage fabrics, papers, buttons, and ephemera for inspiration. The range includes whimsical, quirky and cheerful accessories.

Zulu Queen
The range features unique and original jewellery which is fairly traded from a township in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa and is a result of a long-standing relationship between a Salford-based aid worker and a group of Zulu women. Each piece is individually designed and handcrafted and is purchased in collaboration with the craftswomen, with agreement on prices and profit allocation.
