Schools

Schools across Salford have been working on projects, events and activities related to London 2012, for example through the Get Set programme, which is the official London 2012 education programme.

88 schools in Salford have signed up to the Get Set programme, of which 61 are members of the Get Set Network. This gives schools opportunities to access all the great things that London 2012 has to offer to children and young people, including:

  • Tours of the Olympic Park
  • Visits from Olympians and Paralympians
  • Tickets for Olympic events

and chances to take part in the pilot of brand new London 2012 initiatives.

Springwood Primary School is for pupils from two to eleven years who have moderate, severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties including autistic spectrum disorders.

The school ran an Olympic-themed healthy living week between 21 and 25 May 2012. Pupils learnt about the importance of exercise as well as the importance of hygiene and healthy eating. The opening ceremony was attended by the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Eric Burgoyne and Paralympic swimmers Heather Frederikson and Louise Watkin.

During the week, pupils took part in boating, rafting, canoeing, fencing, trampolining, football, cricket, archery, tri-golf, physiotherapy, swimming, cycling, road safety, rugby, boxwa (boxing/dance fusion), Wii-Fit, aromatherapy and soft play.
