Volunteering
Volunteer as an ambassador
To assist visitors to the football matches at Old Trafford and to provide a warm welcome to people visiting Greater Manchester, 700 official "ambassadors" are being recruited from Salford, Trafford and Manchester. Ambassadors will have three main duties:
- Supporting key London 2012 events such as Olympic football fixtures and the Olympic torch relay
- Hosting visitors, for example, signposting to key venues and attractions, welcome visitors at key transport interchanges and providing information and assistance where required
- Acting as an ambassador for the area by being friendly, helpful, informative, welcoming, positive and proud!
To be eligible to volunteer you must:
- Be 18 or older by 1 January 2012
- Live, work, study or volunteer in Manchester, Trafford or Salford
- Be available to volunteer during 26 July and 7 August 2012
- Be willing to complete a programme of training for the role
The ambassador programme is administered by the Manchester Volunteer Sport Bureau.
Become a local leader
Would you like to lead the way in organising celebrations for your community during the London 2012 Olympic Games?
People in Salford are being encouraged to sign up to the local leaders initiative, launched by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). Whether it's creating a brilliant community welcome for the Olympic torch as it travels through Salford or hosting a party to mark the opening ceremony, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
The London 2012 website has more information if you're interested in becoming a local leader. You can receive further information on a range of themed celebration ideas plus free London 2012 event materials to support events.
