MAPAS special projects
Part of Salford's Music & Performing Arts Service
MAPAS provides a variety of special projects to encourage involvement in the Performing Arts. These range from activity days for children of all ages and community groups to training courses and classroom support material for teachers.
We believe that the provision of special projects opens up new opportunities for involvement in the Performing Arts and that it actively reinforces the daily work of the service.
Our aim is to bring together performers of varying experience in workshops, which are led by MAPAS in conjunction with nationally renowned organisations and performers. The workshops lead to performances, which give the participants a real sense of achievement and the enthusiasm to continue their involvement in the Performing Arts.
Special projects are regularly organised with the Halle Pathfinder organisation, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Singup, the Lowry Centre, the Bridgewater Hall, the Right Side African Drumming Group and the Natural Voice Network. Schools are supported by the music workshops for the Primary schools, Jump Start to Singing and showcase events.
MAPAS provides the following special projects:
- Programme of Primary School Workshops
- Jump Start to Singing at Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and 2
- Integrated Arts Project for KS2 every 2 years
- Singing days, Christmas or Spring Sing event
- World Performing Arts Day for Primary Schools, summer term
- Various instrumental playdays throughout the year
- Easter and Summer Showcase Massed Choirs
- Residential Performing Arts weekend, September each year
- Ramona Rhapsody with the BBC Philharmonic
