Media Enterprise centre

Salford City Council want to encourage big new ideas at MediaCityUK, so we've secured North West Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding to create a place where creativity and innovation can be nurtured and developed.
The Media Enterprise Centre (MEC), located in the south tower of the MediaCityUK studio block, will offer a range of services to help stimulate and support the growth of media companies and will be built around six defining themes:
- Advanced digital technologies
- Experimental and applied research
- Talent development
- A convening space for meetings/conferences
- Professional skills development
- Flexible workspace
Funding of £3,775,321 from the NWDA and a further £6,852,678 under the ERDF, which is managed in the north west by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG), has been secured to progress the project.
A number of key areas will be created within the MEC. They include:
- Games hub comprising a usability lab for games and interactive technologies, within a wider games research/testing facility
- Digital workflow hub comprising key industry requirements: a new broadcast lab (NBL), a media technology support service (MTSS) and a content information bank (CIB)
- Production content hub comprising flexible workspace for new content makers, and a post-production environment
- Workspace - office space will be available for rent by small and medium sized businesses within the MEC
- Business lounge - the convening space or 'glue' for the MEC will come from Floor 7 which will be a business lounge and conference/meeting space
