Mental health supported accommodation: your views
What is mental health supported accommodation?
Mental health supported accommodation services provide support to people who have experienced mental health problems and may have difficulties living independently.
People can live in a supported accommodation service for a long or short period of time. During this time, tenants are supported by staff to develop living skills to assist them to live as independently as possible in the future. The level of support received depends upon the needs of the individual.
What changes are happening?
Salford City Council asked organisations to provide the support that people receive in a supported accommodation environment. This is called a tender process.
The council had to write a document called a specification to explain what type of service it wanted organisations to provide. You can read more about the tender process and the specification by downloading the document below.
We feel that it is very important that people who use supported accommodation services should be able to have a say about what makes a good or bad service. We also think that people who may need to use supported accommodation services in the future or who have previous experience of supported accommodation services (and may now have moved out) should also have a say.
Your ideas and thoughts on the service were included in the tender process and in the specification to make sure that we develop a service that meets people's needs.
The consultation closing date was 11 November 2011.
