Mission possible
Mission possible lands in Salford
Your mission, should you wish to accept it, is to provide children with an exciting education in food hygiene.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) recently launched Mission possible, a UK wide scheme aimed at teaching food hygiene messages to Key stage 2 pupils, in a fun and interactive way. Fifty Local Authorities have been given the opportunity to participate including Salford's food safety team. This pack has been developed by Wyre Borough Council and incorporates a teaching packs and a range of training resources for classroom work were developed, including a CD-ROM and a workbook.
Following class-based activity, the children were given ‘secret agent' kits to take home over a weekend to carry out experiments in their own kitchens, for example checking fridge temperatures and looking for where cross-contamination might occur. The accompanying workbook was filled in and class-based activity rounded up what the children had learnt. The ‘secret agent' theme is followed throughout the project and has been key to the enthusiasm with which Mission possible has been received.
The package consists of 40 secret agent cases, containing a fridge, thermometer, swab, key messages pen, infra red temperature probe, torch, sample bags, spoon/scraper, ruler/calculator and workbook. 200 refill packs enabling you to refill and re-use each case ten times, two UV cabinets, with ‘glowgerm' fluid and AC-DC adapters a teaching pack containing a full mission briefing.
