Suzuki Group Beginner and Book 1
Conducted by Mr McIntyre, Miss Lyons and Mrs Johnson
Suzuki violin lessons are taught in Primary schools throughout the city. The arts centre groups provide pupils with the chance to work together on repertoire.
Salford Junior and Senior Percussion Ensembles
Led by Mr Hodson and Mr Noone
These ensembles are open to all pupils with an interest in percussion and rhythm. Enthusiasm is essential!
Salford Flutes
Conducted by Mrs Partington
This year the flute groups will be combined to one group of all abilities. There is the opportunity for members of this group to play on alto and bass flutes supplied by MAPAS to enable full ensemble requirements of a choir.
Clarinet Choir
Conducted by Miss Webster
As with the flute group, the clarinet choirs are being combined to one group of all abilities. The group consists of a full range of clarinets and the group perform a variety of repertoire.
Beginner Strings
Conducted by Miss Davies and Miss Lyons
This string group is for very beginners up to pre grade 1 standard, all players are given the opportunity to perform regularly at MAPAS concerts.
Centre Wind Band
Conducted by Miss Webster and Mr Garbutt
Entry requirement for this group is grade 1. This group offers the young wind players a wonderful opportunity to put their skills into practice. They perform regularly at the MAPAS festivals and even performed at the opening night of our showcase 2000 that was held at The Lowry.
Salford Youth Concert Band
Conducted by Mr Noone
The entry requirement for this group is Grade 4+. The Youth Concert Band is the senior wind band that plays regularly at The Lowry, prom concerts and local venues, garden fetes and schools. The senior groups regularly go abroad on music tours, experiencing outdoor venues, audiences and performing in different climates and cultures.
Salford Concert Strings
Conducted by Miss Davies
The entry requirement for this group is Grade 4+. This is the senior string group at the arts centre and all the members of this group are also members of the City of Salford Youth Concert Orchestra. They have performed at many MAPAS events and have also performed with the Manchester Camerata at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.
Salford Training Band and Salford Training Strings
Conducted by Mr MacDonald, Mr Curtis and Mr McIntyre, Mr Boardman
The entry requirement for these groups is Grade 2 to Grade 4 standard. Members of the Training Band and Training Strings often join together to perform at concerts.
Salford Youth Orchestra
Conducted by Miss Davies
This group has been reformed at the request of the student council. The entry requirement for the group is Grade 4+. From September 2011, wind and brass players will need to audition to attend the orchestra. Many members of the Youth Orchestra also attend the Concert Strings and Concert Band groups.
Irlam Satellite Band
Conducted by Miss Webster
This ensemble is open to players of all levels. The Irlam Satellite Band started in autumn 2002 and caters for all orchestral instruments.
