Information for school staff
The government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) investment programme will help us to raise standards in schools.
Schools represent the hopes and aspirations of many communities. BSF is bringing together investment in buildings and ICT with significant educational transformation.
For school staff this is a huge opportunity - contributing to the educational direction of your school for decades to come. We have been working with school staff, pupils, parents and the community in thinking about an individual school, how it works and what everyone wants from it in the future.
A statutory consultation on the proposals to close The Swinton and Moorside High Schools took place in the six weeks up until 20 October 2010. As part of this process, meetings took place with the staff of both schools and staff were also asked to give their views in writing. A list of the main questions asked as part of the consultation, together with responses, has been published.
Understandably, a major concern for many staff was job security and the timescales within which the staff selection process would be conducted. Given that every pupil in the existing schools when they close, will be given a place in the new school when it opens, there is unlikely to be a significant reduction in staff numbers. In addition, if some staff were displaced, Salford has a good track record in offering teaching staff redeployment opportunities in other schools. However, if the proposals do go ahead, it was agreed to examine options which would enable the selection process to take place as early as possible. The process and timescales would need to be agree with whichever organisation provides the new school, the new governing body and head teacher.
