Quiffs, Riffs and Tiffs

The information collected has gone towards two exciting new projects: a music map, showing the wide range of musical heritage across the whole of the city and an exhibition opened in October this  year. Both  form part of a wider on-going musical heritage project celebrating the variety and scope of Salford's musical landscape.

The exhibition at Salford Museum and Art Gallery is called Quiffs, Riffs and Tiffs and will be open until October 2009. The exhibition is a display of  merchandise, memorabilia clothing, films and peoples memories. It includes

  • Crosby Stills and Nash Platinum Disc
  • First bass guitar he owned Items loaned by Peter Hook of New Order
  • An original demo tape of the Happy Mondays
  • Elkie Brooks stage dresses
  • Hand written memoirs of Ex Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr
  • Crosby Stills and Nash Platinum Disc
  • Artwork from the Ting Tings

Photographs of many well know Salford bands that have never been seen before from The Hollies to the Happy Mondays are also on display, plus much much more including the Salford Music Map.

The music map aims to cover all types of music across the ages from folk to philharmonic, The Smiths to the Ting Tings and will highlight musical 'hotspots' in the city, such as venues, birthplaces, concert halls and iconic locations.Please visit the exhibition and leave your memories of Salford music and events or email salford.museum@salford.gov.uk.
