New Eccles Primary School
Plans are progressing for a new primary school to be built on Lewis Street in Patricroft. The new school will be a merger between Christ Church Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School on Nelson Street and the Lewis Street Community Primary School.
Funded through the government's Primary Capital Programme, the £6 million school is expected to open in September 2014. Providing 420 places for pupils the school will also host a 60 place nursery and a children's centre together with a sports field, associated landscaping, pedestrian access and parking.
Full planning permission was granted in July 2011 for the construction of the proposed school, including demolition of the existing Lewis Street Primary School, boxing club and commercial premises. Construction is expected to start in 2013 depending on land being acquired for the extended site.
