Salford West news

In 2007 you told us about your hopes and ambitions for the west of Salford. The framework captured these and has already started to make a difference, with funding to support a number of projects ranging from community 'In Bloom' projects to shop front improvement grants. Progress to date has included:
- Supporting successful 'In Bloom' projects accross all five of Salford West's Community Committee areas in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
- Brightening up Liverpool Road with colourful new barrier baskets, trees and flower borders.
- Delivering the greenstreets project, which saw trees planted along Station Road into Swinton town centre.
- Improvements to signage, footpaths and seating along the Bridgewater Canal Corridor between Liverpool Road and Alder Forest, as part of a larger project being co-ordinated by the Bridgewater Trust. The next phase of works from Monton to Worsley will start later this year.
- Supporting the 'Aspire to Enterprise' 2008 scheme, run by Salford Hundred Venture, which supports adults who would like to learn more about starting up and running their own business.
- The launch of the building front improvement grant in priority areas of Liverpool Road and Eccles town centre. To date 23 shop fronts have been improved along Liverpool Road with over 50 expressions of interest received in the next phase. Both public and private investment have made these improvements possible.
- The development of the Monton to Roe Green Loopline trail leaflets, one of the most popular downloads on the Visit Salford webpages.
- A shop local scheme run in 2009-10 to encourage local residents to rediscover their local town and neighbourhood centres.
- Refurbishments of the Carnegie Library, War Memorial and Eccles Town Hall in Eccles town centre.
The framework is being delivered through a series of action plans. The 2008-2011 action plan focuses on:
- Improving Liverpool Road Corridor (A57)
- Developing the Bridgewater Canal Corridor
- Supporting Eccles town centre
