Next Step activities: football group

The Next Step Project group runs a five-a-side game every week in Salford, supported by Salford City Leisure.
Outdoor and indoor pitches are available. Anybody involved with the Next Step Project is welcome to attend regardless of ability! It's great fun and there are only basic ground rules you need to agree to do!
In addition to the weekly game the project enters lads and girls teams in other local events.
In 2009, Next Step entered three teams in the ‘Your Game' tournament, a partnership between the BBC, F.A, Premier League, Kick it Out and the Football Foundation. It was held at Salford Sports Village. More than 150 young people took part and it was a fantastic opportunity to meet other people and develop skills. As well as a five-a-side tournament there were workshops for budding DJs, graffiti artists and street dancers. Future funding opportunities, free coaching and links to other organisations were also available.
Matches
Next Step has strong links with the Manchester United Foundation and during the course of the year has held a number of matches at The Cliff training ground, part of Manchester United's extensive training facilities.
As well as coaching input from the Foundation, Next Step have played games involving other community groups, Salford YOS and a particularly favourite annual game where the young people comprehensively beat the staff from Next Step.
Linked to these matches, young people have raised money for local charities as well as pursuing coaching opportunities through the foundation.
