School meal nutritional standards

From September 2009, all maintained and non-maintained schools in England will be expected to have introduced the government's food based standards for school lunches.

The nutrient – based standards for school lunches aim to make the food offered healthier by:

  • Increasing the vitamin and mineral content
  • Decreasing the fat, saturated fat, non milk extrinsic (NME) sugars and sodium (salt) content

In Salford, we have met the required government guidelines so you can be guaranteed your child is receiving a well balanced meal at lunchtime.

We have invested in the latest nutritional analysis software to ensure all dishes meet the new nutrient based guidelines. Menu planning and new product development are top priorities in Salford and this enables us to provide an excellent service at your school.
