Odour and dust pollution

This type of pollution includes dust, steam, smells and other effluvia (discharges) that come from industrial, trade or business premises.

Examples of this type of nuisance are:

• Dust blowing from a factory yard or escaping from equipment
• Smell from a sewage treatment works or processing smells from a factory
• Steam that is escaping from a vent and causing a nuisance.

Where the dust, steam, smell or other effluvia arise from premises regulated by the Environment Agency under permitting regulations, then the enforcement will lie with them.
