Older people
If you're struggling at home, find out how we may be able to help.
Use our online enquiry form or phone 0161 909 6517.
Some examples of the services we offer are:
- Disabled parking badges (blue badges)
- Home care
- Meals delivery
- Equipment
- Day care
- Helping Hands minor repair service
- Low impact exercise sessions
- Befriending groups
- Dance clubs
- Luncheon clubs
- Care on Call mobile warden service
Some of these services help you learn new ways of doing things at home. Other services help with the things that you can't manage by yourself. We can also put you in touch with other services:
If you need a great deal of care and support and we can't help you to live at home, you may need to think about other options such as residential or nursing care. You can also read 'Finding and paying for a care home' booklet by Help the Aged.
If you want things to do, you want to meet new people, or you want to find some support, you can search our online database.
Want to join other older people on Facebook? Chat, find out what is going on around the city, share photos of events you've been to.
What happens when you contact us
We'll ask you some questions: your age, address, what things you are finding difficult to manage, if anyone helps care for you, etc. We may then come and visit you to find out more information. We may also want to speak to anyone else who helps care for you, for example friends, relatives, other professionals or your doctor. This is called an assessment.
Arranging your own care
You can contact a private care organisation directly if you want. Most private organisations will be happy to provide you with services, although they will charge you. You can still ask us for an assessment of your needs and use the information we give you, to plan what you want the private agency to do. All private care agencies should be registered with the Care Quality Commission and you should ask to see their latest inspection report.
