Open water swimming

Dates and times
Our open water swim season has now come to an end. Sessions will start up again at the start of May 2012. The open water swim sessions are the perfect training session for long-distance swimmers and triathletes.
- Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings (during our swim season) from 6.00pm until 8.30pm
- Full safety cover is provided
- Warm showers and changing rooms are available
- Goggles and swim caps can be purchased from reception
- During 2011 wetsuit hire was available, supplied to us by Royles. We hope to have a simillar service available for 2012
Swimmers can swim around our 400 metre course which is measured regularly by GPS. Safety kayaks and boats are on hand at various points around the course should people need help or just something to hold onto to take a breather.
We also have separate coached sessions that people can take part in on Monday and Thursday evenings. The coaches come from Manchester Tri Club and can cater for all abilities.

To attend a swim session all swimmers must pre-register on a yearly basis. The 2011 registration form is now available to download at the bottom of this page. Please ensure that you only register with a 2011 form.
All previous participants will need to re-register. There will be no registration on Monday and Thursday evenings or Saturday morning due to the large number of people going through reception. So please email us your form as soon as you can (before 3.30pm if you are registering on the day you intend to swim).
A Salford Community Leisure (SCL) swipe card is required. You will receive this when you register for the first time. If you have been previously then you should already have a swipe card.
A replacement SCL swipe card costs £2.50.
Please note that our lockers now cost twenty pence, which is non returnable. We also now have a number of small secure lockers for valuables such as wallets, car keys and mobile phones. These take one pound which is returnable.
If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact the watersports centre.
