Out of school activities
Out of school clubs/playschemes
Out-of-school clubs provide safe care before and after school, and often during school holidays. They are usually based on school premises or in youth or community centres and are led by trained play workers.
An out-of-school club is ideal if you cannot collect your child from school at the end of each day and want a safe place for them to enjoy a range of activities with children of a similar age.
There are several different types out of school clubs:
Breakfast clubs - open in the mornings before school so children can enjoy breakfast there
After school clubs - open in the afternoons between about 3.30pm and 6.00pm
Before and after clubs - open in the mornings and afternoons
Holiday playschemes - open during school holidays between about 8.30am and 6.00pm
You can expect to pay between £15 and £50 per child per week for an after school childcare place and between £35 and £90 per child per week for a place at a holiday playscheme. However, these are average costs and charges will vary. Many clubs fund-raise to keep fees at a very reasonable rate, others offer reductions for siblings or lone parents.
Salford Family Information Service can provide you with information and advice on out-of-school clubs, including access to providers in you area.
