Captain Fold Road area

Salford City Council proposes to make the City of Salford (Captain Fold Road Area, Little Hulton) (20mph Speed Limit and Revocation) Order 2023, under the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984.

The proposed Order shall prohibit any person driving any motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 20mph on the below mentioned roads, for their full length unless otherwise specified:

  • Anchor Lane - From its junction with Newcombe Drive north for a distance of 50m
  • Arley Street
  • Bank Grove
  • Bank Lane
  • Bullows Road
  • Captain Fold Road
  • Gorse Drive
  • Marsh Hey Close
  • Moorhey Road
  • Moorland Drive
  • Newcombe Drive
  • Newgate Drive
  • Old Lane
  • Oldwells Close
  • Spa Crescent
  • Spa Grove
  • Spa Lane
  • Upland Drive
  • Wellstock Lane

An existing Order is to be revoked so as to be consistent with the proposals. A copy of the proposed Order, a plan of the area and statement of the council's reasons for proposing to make the above Order can be viewed online on this page. City of Salford (Captain Fold Road Area, Little Hulton) (20 Mph Speed Limit and Revocation) Order 2023

Salford City Council in exercise of its powers under Sections 82 and 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (hereinafter called "the Act") and of all other enabling powers and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Act and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police for the County of Greater Manchester in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act, hereby makes the following Order:

Interpretation

In this Order:

  • "Special Forces" means those units of the armed forces of the Crown the maintenance of whose capabilities is the responsibility of the Director of Special Forces, or which are for the time being subject to the operational command of that Director.

The Interpretation Act 1978 shall apply for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

Amendment to existing order

  • The Order specified in Schedule 1 to this Order is revoked in its entirety.

20mph speed limit zone

  • The roads specified in Schedule 2 to this Order shall cease to be restricted roads for the purposes of section 81 of this Act.
  • No person shall drive any motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 20 miles per hour on the lengths of road specified in Schedule 2 to this Order.
  • No speed limit imposed by this Order applies to the vehicles falling within Regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with Regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.

Statement of reasons

The proposed extension of the 20mph zone will ensure all the resident of this estate will be able to benefit from the lower speed limit. Which is in line with government recommendations for residential areas and should contribute to a safer highway environment for all residents of the area.
