Parks and Fit City
Parks and leisure
Liverpool Road is rich in leisure spaces. It is bordered by Eccles Recreation Ground, Patricroft Recreation Ground, Princes Park (Irlam) and Cadishead Park. Fit City Irlam lies on the road and the Bridgewater Canal flows under the road at Patricroft. All of these have seen investment in the last three years with more planned.
Eccles Recreation Ground
Eccles recreation ground is a popular park within walking distance of Eccles town centre and Liverpool Road. The park was revamped in 2010 getting a new outdoor gym, adventure playground with play equipment, climbing frame, activity trail and zip wire for older children to enjoy.
Patricroft Recreation Ground
Located on Edison Road, the recreation ground is primarily sports and play orientated with the football pitches being home to local football teams. A new multi-use games area was installed in 2010 funded through the Salford Playbuilder programme. The games area has floodlighting and a children's play area adding to the other features of the neighbourhood park which includes a crown bowling green.
Princes Park
A new grass amphitheatre in Prince's Park in Irlam completed in June 2011. A natural bowl and stage have been built with improved drainage and vehicle access that local residents can benefit from year round performances. The bowl shape design improves the acoustics of the performances as well as giving audiences somewhere comfortable to sit and watch. The amphitheatre was a key local priority within the Princes Park master plan and will encourage the use of the park as a major venue for open air and large scale community events in the Irlam and Cadishead area.
The project has been funded with £112,000 of Planning Obligations secured through local developments under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act. The monies were paid by four residential developments that are all located within 400 metres of the park.
Wider investment in Princes Park has had a significant impact to the park:
- improvements to the George Thomas play area
- installation of a new BMX skate park
- footpath improvements
- new access controls at Highbury Avenue
- a new footpath link from Highbury Avenue into the park
- public toilets
- refurbishment of the tennis courts

Cadishead Park
The NHS funded new outdoor gym at Cadishead Park was installed in 2010 so that everyone can enjoy exercising in the open air. The equipment is free to use and suitable for all ages and abilities.
Lords Street Playing Fields
A new kick-about area was completed at Lords Street in June 2011. It is lit and kitted out for both football and basket ball games. It also has new seating and lighting. The kick-about area is a priority set within the Irlam and Cadishead Community Action Plan and has been funded with £74,000 of Planning Obligations secured through local developments under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act.
The scheme underwent a full consultation with the local community and the thoughts and aspirations of the people involved were considered when drawing up the scheme.

Fit City Irlam
Investment in Fit City Irlam continues with a £2.8m redevelopment in 2011. This follows on from a programme of improvements with pool tiling, security cameras and new fitness equipment installed in 2008-2009.
Work started in August 2011 to provide:
- a four court sports hall
- squash court
- dry side changing facilities
