Pendleton regeneration

How Pendleton PFI and the wider regeneration of Pendleton work together
Pendleton is a key area for Salford and the housing Private Finance Initiative (PFI) offers huge opportunities to assist us in creating a vibrant attractive area where people will aspire to live, work and visit.
As part of the regeneration of Pendleton, the housing PFI scheme will create a better choice of quality housing for new and existing residents.
In February 2009, the Pendleton Gateway centre opened its doors to the public. Its joint approach has been adopted in developing a mixed range of services by the PCT and local authority.
Pendleton is a key gateway linking the creative quarters at MediaCityUK in Salford Quays with Chapel Street. The Chapel Street area of Central Salford is soon to experience some regeneration which will put the heart back into the old city of Salford. In January 2010, a planning application submitted by English Cities Fund and Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company was approved.
The PFI process is being developed alongside another key project for the area - the Pendleton Planning Guidance. This provides a framework for the developments and regeneration of the Pendleton and Langworthy areas of the city, over the next 15-20 years.
The guidance will support and compliment the PFI programme for improving council housing in the area, as well as being the catalyst for restructuring the housing market.
