Amersham and Athole Street area and Blodwell Street area
The proposals for the area
In the summer of 2007 we consulted with you on a number of options for the Amersham Street and Athole Street area. As we have developed the proposals for Pendleton, a key issue has been the need to ensure that Pendleton is seen as a great place to live, a place where you will find a choice of homes served by excellent neighbourhood services. Local people have told us during the consultations is that there is a need for a much wider choice of housing if Pendleton is to become a popular neighbourhood.
The council carried out further assessments examining the consultation responses, the finances available and the affordability of the different options, whether the different options could be delivered successfully and how we could achieve the overall vision for Pendleton. From this assessment we arrived at the proposal to redevelop the whole Amersham and Athole Street area, demolishing existing properties. This will mean working with you to identify a new home that meets your needs and helping you in your move to your new home.
What does this mean for me?
During 2009, we contacted you and worked through what this may mean for you in more detail. For residents of the Amersham Street and Athole Street area this will mean the demolition of your property. We will listen to you to find out what kind of new home you need, what type of property you would like to consider and where you want to live.
There are already some open space areas within Pendleton and we are looking at opportunities to build a range of new homes on these existing sites. The new developments, along with existing council and housing association properties, both in Pendleton and across the city, will provide new homes for people who need re-housing. We want to keep the community together, so if you want to stay in the Pendleton area we will look at ways to make this possible. If you want to stay near to your current neighbours in the future, we will aim to make this happen. We will be discussing your future housing in greater detail with you as there will be a range of options available.

When will this happen?
The timing of demolition and the building of new homes cannot be decided until the PFI contractor has been selected. This is because the contractor needs to be able to plan the work for the whole of the Pendleton PFI project. At this stage it is likely that all demolition and new build will be completed between 2011 and 2016. More specific timescales will be published in late 2010 to early 2011.
What happens if I need any repairs or essential improvements now?
Salix Homes will continue to manage your property and be responsible for any repairs and essential improvements required until the PFI contractor is appointed. You should continue to use all the Salix Homes contact details already supplied to you.
I want to know more now!
The following information provides more detail of what this could mean for you. We will be setting up home visits to discuss this more thoroughly. Use this information only as a guide at this stage as your circumstances will need to be understood by the team before we begin to start looking for your new home.
There still is some way to go; we need to work with you on the proposal.
