Employment land review

Salford's employment land review (ELR) was prepared by external consultants, and was approved for publication by the council's cabinet on 14 July 2009. The cabinet report sets out an interim approach to the ongoing protection of the city's employment areas.

The ELR includes:

  • an analysis of future economic growth forecasts over the period 2007 to 2026, along with associated floorspace and land requirements
  • an assessment of the capacity within the city's supply of employment land and premises to accommodate the growth identified (from both a quantitative and qualitative perspective)
  • detailed appraisals of the city's main employment areas

Greater Manchester work

In May 2009, Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners (NLP) was commissioned by the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) to produce a position statement on employment land provision across the ten Greater Manchester districts. The position statement provides an overview of employment land demand and supply in the sub-region and includes recommendations in respect of a future approach to employment land reviews and subsequent monitoring.

Some economic development research has also been undertaken as part of the early stages of work on the proposed Greater Manchester Spatial Framework.
