Strategic Housing Market Assessment

National planning advice in Planning policy statement 3 (housing) published by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) requires that local development frameworks should be informed by evidence of housing need and demand through a strategic housing market Assessment (SHMA).

Regional strategic housing market assessment

4NW published a Strategic Housing Market Assessment which covers the whole of the region. It was undertaken in line with DCLG SHMA practice guidance, and was was prepared by a consortium of Nevin Leather Associates, Manchester Geomatics, the University of Sheffield and Inner City Solutions between January and July 2008.

The regional assessment highlights that Salford falls within two different housing market areas - Greater Manchester central and Greater Manchester north western. The main report and appendices can be downloaded below.

Sub-regional Strategic Housing Market Assessment

SHMA for Greater Manchester was prepared by Deloitte MCS Ltd and GVA Grimley and this was published in December 2008. An update was published in May 2010. The assessment complements the regional assessment completed for 4NW.
