Postural stability class

Postural stability classes are designed for people who have experienced a fall or have a fear of falling or may suffer with poor posture and balance.

Aims of the class

  • To improve older people's stability during standing, transferring, walking and general functioning
  • Strengthening the muscles around the hip, knee and ankle
  • Increased flexibility
  • Re-learn skills of everyday living

Each class lasts for 60 minutes and includes a warm up, gentle endurance work, resistance exercises, balance work and a cool down followed by a cup of tea and a chat!

Classes are free and held at four venues across Salford; Fit City Worsley, the Rainbow Rooms community centre and Salford Sports Village. Transport can be provided free of charge to help you get to and from the venue.

Attendance is via referral from the Falls clinic, classes are not open access.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is designed for people looking to improve their balance, strength and flexibility it also helps to destress and relax. The Sun Style Tai Chi that we deliver has been specially adapted by Dr Paul Lam for people with arthritis, the session consists of a gentle warm up of 24 moves and a gentle cool down, it is suitable for all ages and abilities.

We hold Tai Chi sessions at Fit City Broughton, Fit City Eccles and Fit City Worsley. Please contact your local Fit City centre for days and times.
