Work starts on £9m community hub
This is an archived news story from March 2010
Work has started on a £9 million community hub in Broughton.
The new building is due to open in summer 2011 and will be home to a new library, children's centre and nursery, youth club, trampoline hall, police reporting unit, changing rooms for the adjoining playing fields, and meeting rooms.
Plans for the hub were approved in October after being modified to allow for new homes that are planned for the area.
The new design and layout also means that the nursery will not need to be relocated during the building works.
Salford City Council leader Cllr John Merry said: "This will be a fantastic community asset and I am delighted that all the behind-the-scenes hard work has brought us to this successful conclusion.
"It has been a real community effort to pull all this together and I would like to thank all of those who have worked towards the final start on site.
"When it is opened next year, the hub will provide a real community focus for the area offering excellent facilities and services for everyone."
