£1m Big Lottery Fund for Little Hulton
This is an archived news story from July 2010
How would you like to spend £1m on your local community? Well residents in Little Hulton are being asked just that, with the previously overlooked area receiving £1m from the Big Lottery Fund.
Local people are at the heart of this new funding, with community and voluntary groups being asked to come forward and be part of decision making process on how the £1m should best be spent. A new charitable trust is to be set up and will be tasked with deciding how and when to spend the money.
Cllr Paula Boshell, Salford City Council lead member for neighbourhoods said: "Little Hulton doesn't have the voluntary sector infrastructure that other areas of Salford have. This is a great opportunity for local groups to work together on innovative projects that will improve the local area. I look forward to assisting the process in any way we can.'
The council neighbourhood management team played an important part in providing the Big Lottery fund with information that ensured Little Hulton really was deserving of this fund, conducting a two hour tour and explaining what some of the key challenges are in the area.
Little Hulton is one of only three areas in Greater Manchester that will benefit from this funding. It is expected that it will take until October for the charitable trust to be set up with funding actually coming through to earmarked projects in June 2011.
Helen Bullough, Big Lottery Fund Head of the North West region, said: “The Big Local Trust is a dedicated Lottery funding stream to help people in neighbourhoods such as Little Hulton to identify local issues and to develop the skills and confidence necessary to change things for the better.
“We hope that by securing funding for the long-term and by offering a commitment to providing dedicated local support, the Big Local Trust will bring lasting positive changes to Little Hulton and its residents.”
