Cadishead to get new homes
This is an archived news story from December 2012
New family homes are to be built under Salford City Council plans to regenerate an area in the south of Cadishead.
And residents have the chance to comment on the council's regeneration strategy.
Regenerating the area is expected to solve a number of issues, which residents and community groups have raised with the council. These include building good quality family housing, vacant and underused sites suffering from contamination, fly tipping and anti-social behaviour.
A public consultation on the strategy has been launched and builds on previous community involvement, including an options consultation.
It concerns the area of land that sits between Liverpool Road, one of the council's key regeneration locations in Salford, and Cadishead Way, where a number of businesses are located.
The consultation last until 25 January 2013 and a number of public events for residents to discuss the strategy with council officers have been scheduled.
Staffed sessions will take place on:
- Tuesday 11 December, from 6.00pm to 8.00pm, at Hamilton Davies House, 117c, Liverpool Road, Cadishead
- Wednesday 12 December, from 10.00am to 12.00pm, at Cadishead Library
The adjacent site, Hayes Green, is already undergoing development, which will see more than 240 homes built. The proposed regeneration strategy builds on previous studies and outlines the vision for new housing developments to encourage developers to invest in the area.
Salford City Mayor Ian Stewart said: "We have listened to the issues of concern to local residents and proposed a regeneration plan that will solve them.
"The floor is now open to the public to offer further comment on the proposals and the strategy gives the local community a loud voice in how the development proceeds.
"The finalised strategy will give potential developers more certainty about what local residents expect. I look forward to comments from the community and to seeing the area regenerated."
The dates for consultation are from Monday 3 December 2012 to Friday 25 January 2013.
