Single Ticket Programme - learning works wonders

Due to the success Future Jobs Fund programme, Salford City Council are committed to building upon the impact of the programme by approving funding to provide short paid work experience placements (approximately three months) with private sector employers.

To find out more about the Single Ticket read our frequently asked questions below:

What is the need for the Single Ticket Programme?

As health and care providers start to work closer together and services become much more integrated, staff will require a different focus and a wider range of skills and understanding about health and care needs.

The Single Ticket will give the people the skills, knowledge and the confidence to work across artificial barriers that often hinder 'joined up' working.

Is the programme trying to create some kind of 'super professional'?

Far from it. However, providers will have the opportunity to review their service to ensure that it is part of a complete care package that has continuity and consistency at its heart. This means that participants will have a greater understanding of complex needs and be able to respond more comprehensively.

How would the Single Ticket benefit my organisation?

Helping us to develop the programme will help you to grow a more flexible workforce and bring better value to the service as the Single Ticketers will have an extended range of skills and knowledge reducing the need for additional input/support.

Will this impact on quality?

We hope so. The Single Ticket is designed to expose participants to a comprehensive range of best practice experiences which they can then transfer into their future practice.

Who runs the Single Ticket?

There is a low level of bureaucracy; the partners run the programme through co-operation and agreement with the Single Ticket team acting as primus inter pares.

Who recruits the participants?

The Single Ticket team working with partners and networks identify potential candidates but the final selection will be made jointly by partners through a bespoke recruitment process that has been tried and tested.  It is a tough process that tests the determination of people to succeed.

Will the successful candidates be work ready?

Yes. They will be put through a preparatory and induction programme that will ensure that they are ready to 'hit the ground running'.  An enhanced CRB application is submitted for the successful candidates immediately after their interview.

Can I be sure that this is a worthwhile venture?

The Single Ticket is a way of demonstrating good corporate citizenship towards local communities and works towards breaking the cycle of deprivation and social exclusion associated with worklessness.

Evidence from the programme shows that participants' mental and physical wellbeing are improved by their participation and that there are positive spin offs for family and friends. This is a cost effective programme that reduces the call on the public purse and helps people contribute to society.

What do I need to do to become a partner of the programme?

Three things are needed to make the programme successful:

  1. Identify work placements.
  2. Support the programme financially and/or with resources.
  3. A liaison person with whom the Single Ticket can work.
