Red Rose Community Forest

The Red Rose Community Forest is a partnership of six districts (Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Wigan with Natural England and Forestry Commission).
Salford has responsibility as the lead authority and accountable body in support of the forest partnership.
Whilst, the long-term vision is the creation of The Red Rose Forest, in reality this will not be a forest in the traditional sense. Whilst there will be forests, they will be set within a broad landscape mosaic comprising open spaces, parks, community woodlands, farmland, playing fields, hedgerows and street trees. They will be linked together by walkways, canals corridors, green streets, cycle routes and public rights of way.
The Red Rose Forest is the organising framework within which Salford City hangs some of its major project ideas. In recent years the Red Rose Forest is helping to deliver the following strategic projects:
In the Lower Irwell Valley, a new partnership with the Forestry Commission, and financial support from the North West Development Agency (NWDA) is seeking to reinvigorate the valley landscape and turn a derelict and underused landscape into a recreational and landscape asset, providing local communities with confidence and attracting future investment.
At a local neighbourhood level, the Red Rose Forest is promoting Green Streets, which seek to reintroduce street trees, planters, public art and street furniture back in to the street scene. Consultation techniques use a virtual street environment from which to develop interactive ideas. Work is taking place in Seedley and Langworthy.
Chat Moss Visioning
Red Rose Forest Team are acting as coordinators for a project that seeks a long-term vision for the mossland landscapes in Salford Wigan and Warrington. They have engaged consultants on behalf of a group of partners to establish a land use master plan which will encourage the long term sustainability of wildlife, farming and leisure across the mossland landscapes.
Croal Irwell Regional Park
Red Rose Forest Team have acted on behalf of Salford, Bolton and Bury to drive forward the initial concepts and Vision for a Regional Park located in the Irwell Valley. In the longer term, with the support of NWDA and an active partnership, it is hoped that the Irwell Valley will become another element of Salford's "tourism offer" delivering a range of leisure, wildlife, and heritage opportunities that will drive new economic opportunities and healthy lifestyles for the conurbation.
