Smiley SID

Smiley SID is available for loan to schools. Full training given.

"Smiley SID" (Speed Indication Device) is a mobile, interactive, educational tool designed to inform drivers of their speed. If motorists are travelling within the speed limit SID rewards them with a happy face, but if they are speeding it shows a sad face to remind them to slow down.

SID doesn't record number plates and it doesn't issue fixed penalties but it does encourage drivers to slow down in a friendly way.

This simple to erect and easy to use sign is now available for loan to all schools in Salford free of charge. It is an ideal way to teach children about the positive benefits of slower speeds and about the dangers which exist for children as pedestrians. Smiley SID sessions can link to many parts of the National Curriculum.

SID comes with full operating instructions, high visibility vests and additional radar guns and the data from each session can be downloaded for follow-up classroom work. The Road Safety Unit can also provide lesson ideas, collision data and statistics to help plan your lesson.

Contact the Road Safety Unit on 779 4863 or road.safety@salford.gov.uk for further information and to book SID for your school.
