Safer Routes to School
The “Safer Routes to School” project is a Salford City Council initiative which involves children and their parents in identifying problems on their routes between home and school.
All school children in Safer Routes areas are provided with a simple map and questionnaire about how they travel to and from school. They are asked to indicate where on this journey they consider the roads to be dangerous.
This data is then collated and used by the council to design traffic calming schemes. The Road Safety Unit then promote the schemes throughout the area, outlining the safer routes to be used by the children going to and from school.
