Marianne Rolfe

Environmental Health Officer Marianne Rolfe finds her job interesting because she is able to see 'behind the scenes' in places most people are never able to visit.

Her job involves the programmed inspection of cafes, restaurants and takeaways and in the majority of premises, the minimum legal standards are found. But even occasional problems of mouse infestation or a filthy kitchen does not put her off eating out!

"It's all part of the job, and our subsequent visits usually sort out any problems," she says.

She and her colleagues also check and licence pet shops, boarding and breeding kennels, as well as visiting tattooists and acupuncturists. The team are also responsible for ensuring health and safety standards are maintained in many of Salford's businesses.

Marianne was filmed on her day to day activities but found it quite stressful. "You don't realise when you see the film that as well as you and the client there is a cameraman and three or four other people, all crammed into a small space - it's really hard to concentrate on the job in hand!"
