Ian Royle
Ian "Ronnie" Royle thoroughly enjoyed his '15 minutes of fame' when he starred in the Life of Grime series. "It was a chance for people to see what we do for a living and to show the human face of the council,"
At the time of transmission Ian had been with the council for 11 years and as a Graffiti Operative and spent his working day removing the evidence of people's thoughtlessness - and it's no easy task. The teams often got wet and cold - but believed that what they do makes a difference and has helped make the city a more attractive place.
But being a star is not without risks - he was almost arrested by police in body armour when the BBC crew tried to film him removing graffiti from a pub in the city.

Ian Royle tragically died in June 2010, he will be sadly missed.
Councillor Joe Murphy, Salford council’s lead member for environment, said at the time: "We’re all deeply saddened by the news and our thoughts are with Ian’s family at this very difficult time.
"Ian worked for our environment operational team for 17 years and he was a valued member of staff who worked around the clock to make Salford a better place to live.
"Anyone who knew him in the community, or from the A Life of Grime television series, will know that he was a fantastic ambassador for the city who loved his job and he will be greatly missed."
