Information for road users

Slow marking on road

Our roads are getting busier; vans and lorries are on the increase, the popularity of motorcycling is growing, more people than ever now own cars and more and more households own two or more vehicles. It has been a long time since the car was seen as a luxury item - for most it has become an essential.

Nine people die every day on Britain's roads. Many of these deaths could be avoided if we all take more care to protect ourselves, our passengers and other road users.

The following pages give tips and advice for all road users on how to stay safe. Some of the advice is well known such as 'Belt up in the Back' but some advice is less well known. For instance, did you know that men are more likely to have a collision due to sleepiness as they are more likely to carry on when tired?
