Publicity campaigns

Think Road Safety

A variety of road safety publicity campaigns are mounted throughout the year. These are either local or based on national initiatives, often with assistance from the Department for Transport.

In recent years, campaigns have been based on the following themes:

  • Seatbelt wearing
  • Be safe - Be seen
  • Driver safety
  • Speed reduction
  • Walk to school initiatives
  • Mobile phones
  • Child pedestrian safety
  • Anti drink/drug driving
  • Cycle helmets

The city council's road safety team organises local publicity campaigns to tie in with the national campaign calendar. This allows for maximum impact of campaigns as road safety organisations throughout the country are promoting identical themes.

We work in conjunction with the other local authorities in Greater Manchester to promote the annual Greater Manchester Drivesafe campaign. In the past, these campaigns have been based around such themes as "Speed Kills" and "Crashes are no accident" .
