School admission arrangements consultation
Proposal to change high school admission arrangements from September 2010
During the Autumn term 2008, Salford Children's Services consulted with school governing bodies and parents/carers about proposed changes to the admission arrangements for community high schools.
The proposed changes involved the primary schools and how they were linked to their local high schools. When you apply for a school place a set of criteria is used to decide which children get the places. Children who have a brother or sister already at the school, or who attend a linked primary school are given priority. There were two proposals for change regarding the linked primary schools criteria.
- Option 1 – to review which primary schools are linked to each high school so that the links are more appropriate
- Option 2 – To remove linked primary schools from the admission criteria for particular high schools
The results of the consultation have now been considered alongside the two options. The decision has been made to implement option 1. This means that linked primary schools will be maintained as an admission criteria for high school. However the linked primary school arrangements will be realigned as originally proposed. Details of the changes are explained in the school re-alignment table.
The admission criteria for community high schools from September 2010 will give priority to children in the following order:
- Children in Need and Children with medical reasons
- Children with a sibling already at the school
- Children who attend a linked primary school
- Distance from the school
