Outdoor education: school visits

Pond Explorers programme

The Salford ranger team can provide exciting educational activities in:

  • Science
  • Geography
  • English
  • Art

They have been developed to support a number of units in the QCA Schemes of Work.

As a ranger team we also aim to promote environmental responsibility, sustainability and understanding.

The country parks

Blackleach and Clifton Country Parks are an invaluable educational resource for schools, providing a wide range of opportunities for both self-led and ranger led activities. Both country parks have large areas that are classified as Sites of Biological Importance.

Blackleach Country Park

Just half a mile north of Walkden town centre, this 50 hectare site was reclaimed from its industrial past as a result of a local community campaign. There is strong continuing community involvement in the park.

The visitor centre houses toilets and a classroom with space for one class. The park was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 2004.

Clifton Country Park

Located two miles north of Swinton town centre, this park was also reclaimed from its industrial past and is approximately 60 hectares in size. The visitor centre houses an information centre with small gift shop and toilets.

Parks and Local Nature Reserves

Salford's ranger team also run educational activities in other parks and countryside areas of the city including Kersal Dale Local Nature Reserve, Worsley Woods Local Nature Reserve, Kersal Moor, Buile Hill Park, Victoria Park (Swinton) and Prince's Park (Irlam).
