Safer recruitment

The School Staffing Regulations 2009 made it a statutory requirement that at least one person on any school recruitment appointment panel has undertaken appropriate safer recruitment training.

Safer recruitment training is available through the Salford Governor Services training programme, alternatively there is an online course recognised by the Department for Education (DfE) can be accessed via the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) website. Developed by specialist child protection and human resource safeguarding experts, this course will teach you how to protect children and young people through a safer recruitment process.

Working at your own pace, you'll learn about:

  • preparing to recruit
  • shortlisting for interview
  • vetting and barring checks
  • dealing with concerns identified through vetting and barring checks and assessing risk
  • managing allegations of inappropriate behaviour or abused by a member of staff or volunteer

Once you've successfully completed this course you can download a personalised certificate of achievement.

There is currently a charge of £35 per person for the course so governors should first ask permission from their governing board if they are seeking funding for this training as part of their training and development as a governor.
