Salford Community Leisure services

Salford Community Leisure (SCL) is an external trust established in 2003 who deliver and manage the following services on behalf of Salford City Council:

  • Sport and leisure centres
  • Libraries
  • Community centres
  • Salford Museum and Art Gallery
  • Salford Local History Library
  • Ordsall Hall
  • Music And Performing Arts Salford (MAPAS)
  • Salford Watersports Centre

SCL are committed to enhancing the physical and cultural wellbeing of the community through sport, leisure, library and cultural opportunities. SCL also work to support residents through active communities and health interventions work.

Libraries

Salford's libraries offer a range of services for local communities. This includes books for all ages, e-books, audio books, DVDs, daily newspapers and magazines.

All libraries have computers available for public use, free of charge and plenty of activities and events for children and adults take place at Salford libraries throughout the year.

If you have difficulty accessing a local library, you can still borrow books and get information from books@home.

You can also access library services online 24 hours a day to renew your books, reserve items in stock, search the library catalogue or access reference sources.

Sport and leisure 

Salford Community Leisure offers a range of sport and leisure activities right across Salford.

Discover fantastic gyms and fitness suites, swimming pools, exhilarating exercise class programmes, open sports halls and relaxing sauna and steam rooms. Meet warm and friendly people and become involved in a wide range of flourishing community groups and activities for all ages.

Community centres

There are seven community centres located across Salford. The centres offer vibrant and welcoming spaces with a wide range of affordable activities for both children and adults.

Museum and galleries

Salford has a proud cultural and creative heritage. The city's range of museums and galleries combine the old with the new to showcase Salford’s fantastic cultural and creative offering for visitors, local people and families to enjoy!

Salford Museum and Art Gallery is an intriguing mix of Victorian and 20th century architecture. With the popular permanent attractions of The Victorian Gallery and Lark Hill Place, as well as the ever changing exhibitions, there is always something for everyone at Salford Museum and Art Gallery, from hands-on activities and workshops to modern art!  

Salford Local History Library is also situated at Salford Museum, popular for family history research, delving into the history of houses, school projects and community heritage in Salford.

The award winning Ordsall Hall is a Grade 1 listed Tudor manor house that was first recorded in 1177. Today, it is an engaging heritage experience. Surrounded by landscaped grounds, it boasts hands on exhibitions, immersive room settings and a small cafe. The hall also provides activities and workshops for children and adults throughout the year.

These cultural venues are managed by Salford Community Leisure.
