Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
CPD in social care
CPD in social care is reflected in the General Social Care Council codes of practice, and Skills for Care have produced guidance and a strategy for CPD in social care, which recognises that although individual care workers have a responsibility for their own learning, they can only progress this if they are actively supported by their employers.
To achieve this, employers will need to create a culture in the workplace which supports learning and development, and CPD is an important part of this. Employers have a responsibility for CPD as they are required to have a competent workforce to protect their service users.
For more information on how to ensure that you are meeting the CPD/training requirements see downloadable documents below.
To support employers in meeting training requirements, the Salford Care Training Partnership have made the following activities available to its members:
Induction support sessions
To ensure that your new workers have the opportunity to consolidate their on-the-job induction and review their knowledge against the Common Induction Standards in a classroom environment.
CPD training courses
A range of traditional classroom based training courses that have been designed to both underpin the induction process as well as ensuring that your workers are able to continuously develop within their job role.
See CPD training courses for the courses that are currently available for nomination and what is on offer in the future.
E-learning
If you have been unsuccessful in securing a place on the continuing professional development classroom sessions, have difficulties in releasing staff or are looking for a more efficient way of meeting your training requirements, we are now able to offer e-learning packages that are social care specific and meet mandatory requirements.
To register and to access the courses, visit the partnership e-learning pages.
Subject to availability and funding, these courses are undertaken in a workbook format and are particularly relevant to night staff and personal assistants who may find it difficult accessing more traditional routes for training.
When opportunities are available, we will let you know via the partnership news and CPD training courses pages.
The Partnership have available on loan, a range of DVDs books and training packs.
Supervision and appraisal
See below a range of guidance and templates that will assist you to assess, monitor and evidence the continuing professional development of your staff.
