Who is SCYPP for?
SCYPP will be working to improve the lives of all of Salford’s children and young people and will have responsibility for a wide variety of services. It will have particular responsibilities for services to vulnerable children who may not be able to reach their full potential without some help from outside, including services for children who have experienced some very difficult problems in their lives such as living away from home or disability. However, it will also be working with the services which everyone receives (like Schools and Health Visiting). Schools have a very important role to play in the CT as they are in contact with almost all children and already support many young people when they need help.
In particular, we know that if children feel good about themselves and feel valued by adults and communities they are more likely to be able to fulfil their potential. This is at the heart of our vision for integrated children’s services in Salford.
What is the difference between a Children’s Trust and the Children’s Services Directorate?
The Children’s Services Directorate will bring all local authority services for children and young people into one directorate. The Children’s Trust will help to bring these services together with those delivered by the PCT and a number of other agencies in Salford such as the Police. However, the move to a Children’s Services Directorate does overlap with the development of a Children’s Trust and the two processes are being co-ordinated together.
How are we developing this approach in Salford?
There is no doubt that it is going to be a challenging to develop integrated services and that it is going to take some time. We need to be clear about what is best for Salford taking account of the Government’s outcomes and the local situation. However, there are a number of things that need to happen in order for greater integration of services to take place. The Salford Children's Trust workplan sets these out.
