Secondary School Provision

Salford LA has 4 different types of secondary school.

There are currently 8 community schools, 5 voluntary aided schools, 2 academies and 3 special schools (for pupils with special educational needs).

  • Community Schools are set up and maintained by the LA.
  • Voluntary Aided Schools are maintained by the LA but controlled by the governors of the school. The governors employ the staff and decide which pupils they will admit and they also have greater financial responsibility.
  • Academies are funded by central government.
  • Special Schools meet the needs of children with Special Educational Needs.
