Second hand dealers

Section 54 of The Greater Manchester Act 1984 requires all persons or businesses carrying on a trade in second hand goods to be registered with the local authority. The term Second Hand Dealer is defined in the Act. The information given below should help you in deciding whether you require to register and will guide you through the application process.

If you are a dealer in second hand goods you must register with the local authority where your premises are situated. Failure to do so is a criminal offence and subject to a fine.

There is no fee to register as a Second Hand Goods Dealer and your registration will allow you to trade throughout the city of Salford for a period of three years.

Applicants will need to complete the application form - you can contact this office on the telephone number below and we will send you an application pack. Alternatively you can download an application form.
