Langworthy Hotel
| Built at the turn of the last century the hotel has served the wider Langworthy area for many years. In 1985 Whitbread's undertook a refurbishment scheme and the hotel operated as a public house from then until its sale in 1993, at which point the new owners converted the hotel to provide self contained hostel accommodation. | ![]() |
Salford City Council acquired the hotel in 2000 on behalf of the Seedley and Langworthy Partnership. It occupies a prominent position in the village centre along Langworthy Road.
The hotel and adjacent land on Jubilee Street offers a unique opportunity for developers to become involved in a nationally recognised regeneration project. So now the search is on to find a developer with the skills, vision and commitment to deliver a scheme that will drive the regeneration of the Langworthy Road village centre.
Together with colleagues in Urban Vision, the Housing Market Renewal (HMR) West team began the marketing process for the Langworthy Hotel and adjoining lands on 25th November 2006. This will be a two stage process with developers invited to submit expressions of interest, including outline proposals, by 26th January 2007. Submissions will then be reviewed and short listed by a selection panel made up of representatives from the City Council, Urban Vision, Seedley and Langworthy Trust, Seedley and Langworthy Partnership Board and the North West Development Agency. Short listed developers will be invited to interview to provide more detailed information on their proposals and it is anticipated that we will have a preferred developer and proposal in place by the end of March 2007.
Our aim is for developers to bring forward mixed use schemes that would provide much needed affordable family accommodation. Preferably the original building would be retained and developers will utilise its positive aspects to create a landmark development that will build on achievements to date, encourage further investment and form a focal point for the village centre and the Seedley and Langworthy area for years to come.
We believe that this building (and land), its location, architectural attributes and close ties to the local community provide the essential requirements to create a positive impact.
