Urban Splash

Work is well underway at the new Chimney Pot Park Urban Splash development in the heart of Langworthy. This is a £40 m scheme including £10.8 m public sector investment. Urban Splash development

Award winning developer Urban Splash is behind some of the UK’s most exciting urban regeneration projects. Working with Liverpool based shedkm architects, they are creating a scheme which incorporates 385 existing terraced houses that will be transformed to provide 349 new “upside down” homes. All properties are 2 bed roomed, but buyers can choose between 3-4 different layouts and car parking spaces.

Large open plan living rooms will be created upstairs with mezzainine level kitchens. A new garden level will be created at first floor level providing external terrace space and secure parking. Urban Splash intends to make this the place to live in 2006 and beyond.

227 have been sold to date at open market sale; purchasers have included the local Seedley & Langworthy community who were given first priority at a pre launch sale in March 2006.

First release sales values were £99-145k and the first units are due to be completed in March 2007. The future phases will be rolled out over a building programme to 2009/10.

The development called Chimney Pot Park retains and restores the traditional fronts of the houses, while inside the living spaces will be remodelled.

“We take the most interesting features – in Langworthy’s case the fantastic Victorian terraces – and then use the best in modern design and architecture to create truly exciting homes for the 21st century.”

Tom Bloxham MBE, Chairman Urban Splash

The Council are in discussion with Urban Splash, Great Places Housing Group & English Partnerships about models for providing affordable housing for sale among the remaining units to be sold. There is a an established requirement for 50 units for low cost home ownership in the development agreement with Urban Splash.
