Last week the council launched Operation Cold Call. We telephoned 1,300 older people to check that they were okay. Most of them told us they were fine but asked us to check back; we are telephoning these people this week. Some needed help collecting food, medication or heating. Where we did not receive a reply, the police agreed to visit and have now checked on more than 350 elderly residents. We will continue to identify and telephone residents who may need extra support during the cold weather.
